DESIGN COMMUNICATION
by Dr Suchi Sri
Design communication is a subject that teach us in producing drawings technically. It is to introduce design communication skills through architectural graphics and modelling and to develop skills in visualisation and communication of architectural idea, space and form.
Learning Outcomes:
1 Produce designs at appropriate complexity and scales up to the schematic level using appropriate communication tools
2 Demonstrate understanding of cultural, historical and established architectural theories, philosophies and context
3 Demonstrate creativity, innovation and imagination and translate these into an architectural design solution
4 Develop design to a level for regulatory application for Building Plan submission that complies to the requirements of local authorities, including understanding of building regulations, basic building construction and materials, environmental considerations and building services
5 Translate design into construction drawings with appropriate construction details and use established architectural drawing convention
6 Work in a team and participate in the design process
PROJECT 1A- SKETCHES
6 April 2017
For the first project in design communication, we are asked to sketch the scenery in our campus, Taylor's University. Two interior perspectives and two exterior perspectives drawing are drawn. It is to train how well we are in sketching and arrange the proportion of objects in a drawing. Besides, we are also asked to render the sketches. It is to train us on the lighting skills.

PROJECT 2A- ORTHOGRAPHIC
8 th May 2017
Orthographic drawings consist of plans, elevations and sections. Before we start to produce orthographic drawings for our chosen building, Ex Of In House, we are asked to try out in drawing our own studio table. Orthographic drawings are to train us in drawing orthographic before we produce drawings for buildings.

PROJECT 2B- AXONOMETRIC PROJECTION
5 th June 2017
Using the plans and elevations drawn for Ex Of In House. we have to produce an interior and exterior axonometric drawing. Axonometric projection drawing is a 3 dimensional drawing to let you know the actual look of the building. By drawing axonometric projection, we can know that how the building will look like and we can also know the dimension of every details in the building.

PROJECT 2C- PERSPECTIVE
19th June 2017
Perspective drawings are drawings which tell you how the building will look like from a specific view. We will be able to express spatial ideas and architectural detail in three-dimension, in the format of one-point and two-point perspectives.

PROJECT 3- STUDIO INTEGRATED PROJECT
10th July 2017
The final project for design communication is an integrated project with design studio 1. We have to produce orthographic drawings with floor plans, front elevation and section for the hideout we designed. Besides, we also have to draw axonometric projection to show the detail of the house. The presentation boards of our hideout shows the thing that we have learned from design communication.
