ARCHITECTURE CULTURE & HISTORY II

This module teaches detailed accounts of the principal developments in the Western world from the revolutionary period to the present day. Buildings will be explored with reference to major contemporary examples and the work and philosophy of significant exponents. We will undertake a major research of a significant building, complete with investigation of the major influences that led to its development and in turn its influence in other architectural aspects.
Learning Outcomes
1. Describe the development of the main strands of western architecture over the last 200 years and Post Merdeka/Independence Malaysian architecture.
2.Identify some of the issues involved in the interrelationship between theory and design as exemplified in various historical periods and places.
3. Interpret architectural language in relation to the development of Malaysian and Western architecture between Post Merdeka/Independence of Malaysia and Industrial Revolution and post-World War
4.Differentiate the way in which many varied factors contribute to the development of form.
5.Compare how architects have used architectural language in various historical periods.
6.Analyse the broad issues pertaining which inform the development of architecture during Post Merdeka/Independence of Malaysia.
PROJECT 1- TIMELINE & DIAGRAM ANALYSIS

This is a research project adopts document analysis methodology that involves documenting, analyzing, producing, and a critical chronological and diagrammatic interpretation of Modern Malaysian architectural history. This project emphasizes critical analysis of the post Merdeka/Independence of Malaysian architecture in the effort to understand the influences of post-modernism to architectural design and construction, building science and technology, and urban design. The project is to distinguish the way in which many diverse factors contribute to the development of Modern Malaysian architecture.
The building that assigned for our group is General Hospital of Kuala Lumpur and Federal Building.




PROJECT 1- REPORT

This project is to further study and analyse the building that is assigned. The building that my group choose is the National Mosque I am grouped with Vanessa Chai, Vanessa Lim and Toh Yi Lin.
This project is to increase understanding on the principle, ideas and contributing factors of Modern Architecture from the previous project in the Klang Valley and we are able to analyse and identify specific architectural features of Modern Architecture of National Mosque. We are also able to document architectural heritage in the form of writings, descriptive diagrams and photography Besides, we are also able to create a magazine as a mean to publish academic materials.
